Strain Review: Durban Princess

May 8, 2019 1 Comment

Durban Princess is a potent strain that is said to promote creativity, bursts of energy. So, receiving an eighth of this strain in my prescription bag was like opening presents on Christmas morning.

I sit on my couch, cross-legged, and pull out each product one by one. Closely inspecting the way they look, the way they smell, the packaging and taking in the entire experience.

The night before the It’s Blunt Girl launch party, I ordered nearly $400 worth of products — lollipops, candy ropes, pre-rolls, cartridges and more. I wanted the good doobies attending to experience a good doobie or two. Hence, I ordered Durban Princess, another sativa-dominant hybrid strain that promises an evening full of energetic highs and happiness.

Unfortunately, it ended my party.

Strain Information

Durban Princess is the hybrid baby of Durban Poison and Jack Herer, and is produced in Portland, OR by Kleen Karma Gardens. With THC levels of about 27%, this sativa-dominant hybrid is roughly 70% sativa and 30% indica. (If you’re unaware of the difference, check out my handy dandy guide here.)

Blunt Girl’s Review

We enjoyed this strain crushed and rolled into a joint using Raw rolling papers. While watching Chill with Bob Ross on Netflix (this has forever changed the way I get stoned with friends, try it one night!), we passed the joint around among the 14 of us.

Durban Princess’s smell throws you into the middle of a pine forest — feeling fresh and at peace with nature. The flavor was also similar to wood and gives you that au natural flavor that’s often forgotten in other hybrid strains.

After about three rounds of passing the joint, we were all stoned… and quiet. The once rambunctious crowd was immediately couch-locked, unable to look away from the television and escape the black holes of our minds. Personally, I’m not a fan of the couch lock, especially in a social setting.

One by one, my guests slowly began to trickle out of my fourth-floor walk-up, ending up in the comfort of their own beds. We ended the evening early.

Durban Princess, for me personally, felt heavy on the indica. In the subsequent days, I smoked the strain prior to going to bed. It allowed me to slip comfortably into a deep sleep. I had high hopes (pun intended) for this strain as a party-starter, however this strain was best effective as a night cap. The flavor was fabulous and the aroma smelled like a candle you just wanted to burn forever. But the effects just didn’t cut it for me.

Perhaps my body is particularly sensitive, but I’m usually the last woman standing after a night of heavy smoking. However, if you’re looking for some great pain relief, Durban Princess is fit to reign that throne.

Effects: 2.5 out of 5 stars (2.5 / 5)
Flavor: 4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)
Aroma: 4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)
OVERALL: 3.6 out of 5 stars (3.6 / 5)

I enjoy it for the fact that it doesn’t give such a heavy effect on the body. Great strain and great review.
